Silent Observation

My house is rarely quiet.  There are always voices filling the air, be it a toddler's, his parent's, or the loud bellows of fighting cats.  I think I have forgotten what silence is like and what to do if I encounter it. This morning, as I was walking through the kitchen, I thought it was strangely quiet (one of those 'it's quiet - too quiet' moments).  My first thought was that Eli might be unconscious in the other room; what other explanation could there be?  I hurried into the living room and to see Eli and both cats looking out the window, just studying the birds.  We have flocks of sparrows that live outside our front door and all over our roof.  They were enjoying the pleasures of nature in absolute silence.  I grabbed my camera to catch the moment and only got a few snaps in before Eli noticed me and started his photo-shoot poses.  I love these pictures.  We all sat for about twenty minutes after, watching the birds and enjoying the sunshine.  I love this day.

The silent spell was broken shortly after when Eli started hitting me with his plastic baseball bat and Lorenzo and Linda tried to disembowel each other with their back claws.

Notice Linda in the background of one of the pictures trying to make a break for it up the screen.  Also, I'm not quite sure why Eli's flaring his nostrils in that other one, but it was cute enough for posting.
