If you want to boost your self-confidence and sanity, it is important that you go swim suit shopping in July after all the sales have swept through and make sure you are accompanied by two tired children.
I probably went into 6 stores today searching for an acceptable bathing suit but there was none to be found. The only things left were the string bikinis (yeah right! I'm not in high school!) and the XS sizes. I even went so far as to try on suits in three different stores (which is extremely rare for me. I'm more of the buy and try it kind of thinker). The fitting rooms were a bit difficult to navigate with a jogging stroller (with a flat tire so it pulls hard to the left while you push it) and a 4-year-old who wanted to hide in the clothes racks so he jump out and scare people as they walked by. I had to find the handicap fitting room just to manage with my entourage. Then, of course, there was a running commentary while I tried on suits like,"Why is that one so tight?" and "Why do you have that Band-Aid on your bootie?" (I had to have a suspicious mole removed from my thigh. I didn't have any cosmetic surgery done.) We had to skip Marina's nap time to shop, so she was whining for the entirety of the adventure. And I was asking myself why the heck I was putting myself through this emotional anguish.
At the end of the shopping day, there was nary a suit to be found. I drove us back home sweating, with my shoulders slumped, wishing I would go buy a doughnut. So, it looks like I am going to have to be one of those trashy people who gets yelled at by the life guard for wearing cut-off jean shorts in the pool.
