Go Green

If you are someone who depends on fashion magazines for hints at the latest styles, this blog is for you.  I'm not sure if I had ever mentioned this before, but I'm kind of what you could call "a fashionista" (not to be confused with Fulgencio Batista - the Cuban dictator).

While it would seem that I value comfort over all else, I consider myself a trend-setter.

Every Friday and Sunday, I can be found wearing what I have affectionately dubbed as "my uniform".  It consists of a pair of hand-me-down green sweatpants and a hot pink zippy sweatshirt.  The sweatpants are a bit on the short side (this confirms my long-held suspicion that I have long legs) which is fortunate since I like to display my stylish socks.  As I am out running errands and training for half-marathons, electric green tennis shoes are often the perfect addition to my ensemble.  Also, the short pants outwardly confirm to everyone I see that my legs are attractively long (I often find myself mistaken for Heidi Klum).

I include a uniform picture for a bit of photographic evidence for posterity.  I am wearing sunglasses indoors as a nod to my celebrity status and looking pensively outside, considering my life and the neighbor's lawn.

I work every Sunday afternoon, so it is my guess that my coworkers look forward to the routine comfort my uniform offers.  They never have to guess what kind of couture I will be dressed in this week, they already know.

Even though my uniform can sometimes bring me unwanted attention (like the clerk at the grocery store asking if I'll be using food stamps to pay today...), I feel it is character-building.  Because of the unrelenting comfort I feel every Friday and Sunday, I feel empowered to do things I couldn't do if I was constrained by jeans or mini-skirts, like sit on the couch for hours or do a 23 minute work-out and then lie on the floor sweating for 53 minutes.

So if you have been tempted to bring out your short green sweatpants, I advise you to seize the day!  Those around you will likely be in awe (and quite possibly pity) of you.
