I had yet another reminder to watch what I'm saying around young ears this afternoon.
I was having a conversation with my husband and sister while I was fixing lunch. We were talking about a famous athlete and of course I had to put in my two-cents. It sounded something like this.
Me: "Ugh, I don't even like him. He has to run around the world siring children and leaving them in his wake."
Just then I heard a little 5-year-old voice say, "What was he doing to children, mom?"
Me: "Huh?"
Eli: "You said he was doing something to children."
Me: "Umm. Inspiring. I said inspiring. He's going around inspiring children all over the world."
Eli: "What does inspire mean?"
Me: "It means people look up to you and make you want to be better."
Eli: [Eyebrows furrowed] "Oh." He seemed to suspect something amiss.
Oh brother, this certainly took a different turn. Watch your mouth, Mommy! This kid is always listening and recording every conversation that goes on around him.
That will teach me to stop slandering people...
